Putney Light Operatic Society

Our Story

Founded in Putney in 1948, Putney Light Operatic Society (PLOS) has been performing operettas and musicals in and around Putney for 70 years.

With a wide-ranging and loyal membership, PLOS is a very friendly society, which prides itself on its openness and inclusivity. Members of all ages ensure that the Society has an active and varied social life which includes fundraising events, theatre trips, pub quizzes and even camping weekends!

History of Our Shows

Initially known for its performances of Gilbert and Sullivan and other operettas, PLOS broadened its repertoire in the late 1960s to include musical theatre and added traditional family pantomimes in 1977.

PLOS is a well-established society with a string of highly acclaimed shows, more recently including West Side Story, Funny Girl, and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. PLOS performs twice yearly at Putney Arts Theatre;  a contemporary musical in May/June and a traditional family pantomime in December/January.

In addition we also stage a play in the summer in a venue in the area, and in 2017 we staged our first production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with the premiere of The Poltergeist of Cock Lane.

Membership

PLOS always welcomes new members of any age or ability. There is no audition to join the society and members are encouraged to get involved in any capacity, whether on stage, behind the scenes with costumes, scenery building, crew, publicity, promotion or front of house.

PLOS Committee

The Society is run by a committee which is formed by a dedicated team of members, elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. Hop over to our committee page to learn more about them.
